Delicious!

As promised, I made the Peanut Butter Corn Flake dessert I was talking about the other day. I tried using white chocolate as the drizzle but just couldn't get it to melt right...so I gave up and just scooped it on top. They still taste just as good :) Here is the recipe and some pictures of me making them.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 jar (18 oz ounce) peanut butter, crunchy or smooth (I like creamy.)
  • 6 cups corn flakes
  • 3 oz good quality chocolate of your choice (I used Scharffen Berger Semisweet 62%.)
Directions

Combine sugar and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Place over medium-high heat and stir until the mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat and stir in the whole jar of peanut butter. Mix well.
  1. Add corn flakes to a large bowl. Pour peanut butter mixture over corn flakes and mix well, taking care to coat all of the corn flakes.
  2. With a tablespoon or cookie scoop, scoop out and form into 1-2 inch balls, depending on your preference, and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.
  3. Put the chocolate in a small bowl and melt in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir until smooth.
  4. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookies.
  5. When cooled, eat these cookies with reckless abandon. Be careful, though. We wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt!

I hope everyone had a great day!

Mother Daughter Day

Today my mom and I spent the day together. I have to say....we need to do it more often! In this post I'm going to give you a play by play of the places and people we met.

Our journey was to the Princeton Flea Market. Neither of us have ever been there but we were very excited to see what it was all about.

Our first stop on the way was The Rippin Good Cookie Outlet Store in Ripon. I have never been to a place where they have a sample out of every cookie they offer. I ended up buying a bag of chocolate covered wafer cookies and a box of Mint Chocolate sandwich cookies. The wafer cookies were amazing so I bought a 5 lb bag of them! They will be perfect to take to the camper :)

You can find them at 420 E. Oshkosh St. Ripon, WI 54971. They are open Tuesday thru Friday 8-4:30 and Saturday 8-1.

Next we headed to Princeton. Once we got parked we started to walk around the downtown area. The first building we walked in to was part of the River City Antique Mall. We couldn't believe when we found a completely intact printers cabinet. My mom acquired a drawer awhile back and had a coffee table top made out of it. We had never seen a whole cabinet though. It was quite impressive and they only wanted $250 for it!!! No, we didn't end up buying it but we sure would have loved to!

There was booth upon booth set up in the Princeton City Park and it took hours to walk around. Here are some photos of some of the things we saw.

After walking for a few hours and purchasing a small bunch of kohlrabi, a bottle cap opener, a book, some squash, and an assortment of gourds we headed to the next destination.

There were two buildings next to each other that looked interesting to us so we stopped. The first one was Huser Daddy....yes...that's right. The prices were ok and they had quite a bit of stuff but we didn't purchase anything.

The next place we visited was Needfull Things. What a beautiful place!

It was filled with reused and re purposed items. The woman who owns the shop has done amazing things with the pieces they have picked. Here are two of my favorite pieces and a look at her store. If you stop in make sure to say "Hi!" from Appleton.

You can find Needfull Things at State Hwy. 23/73 Princeton, WI 54968. Their phone number is 920-295-6000.

We finally started to head back home but my mom had just a few more places she wanted to stop. The first one being Bungalow Quilting and Yarn.

Judy, the owner, was the sweetest woman. She has done some amazing craft projects. Every where we turned we saw ideas and fabric of course!

Below are photos of her store and some of the crafts she has done. We laughed and talked about mother/daughter relationships and my mom and I even sang :) I can't wait until we can go back and visit.

She had a great idea with this dresser. She took an old dresser and had it painted to match her fabric. She then adhered it to the front of the drawers. I love how you really can apply fabric to anything!

I fell in love with her bathroom. The creative ideas were on every wall and even hanging from the ceiling! On this wall she adhered patterns to the wall and then added a cute fabric border at the top. I think it really gave the bathroom a vintage feel.

Here is a view of the whole bathroom. How cute of an idea to store yarn in the tub!!!! Another thing I loved in this bathroom was the bubbles she created out of clear Christmas ornaments! This craft project is definitely on my to do list!

Here is the last craft we found while walking around her store. She took empty bolts and covered them with fabric! She didn't have any extra bolts on hand but said she will keep some aside for me for the next time we come back. I can't wait to try some different ideas I have in mind. I'll make sure to post about them down the road.

Please visit Judy at 646 W. Fond du Lac Street Ripon, WI 54971 and "like" her on Facebook at Bungalow Quilting and Yarn for hours and more information. Tell her Sherry and Liz from Appleton say hi!

Our last stop was a place you would NEVER think was a fabric store. My mom has heard from many women in her quilt groups that YDS is an experience. They couldn't have been more right.

So you know how I mentioned above that Judy used the empty bolts she had to make the wall art? Well I couldn't have been more surprised when I walked up to the door of YDS and there were two boxes full of empty bolts!!!!! We got there at 3:30 and their new hours stated they closed at 3 but I tried the door and yelled in and the owners daughter was there! I asked if she was still open and she said come on in. I then asked what she did with the empty bolts and she said I could have them :) Wait until you see the ideas I have!!!!

You can find YDS on Hwy 116 between Omro & Winneconne. They are open Monday thru Saturday 10-3.

WOW! After typing all this I now realize why I'm so tired! We met some amazing people today and had such a wonderful time. We can't wait to do it all again next year!!!

                                  I hope everyone had a great Saturday!!!!! I know I did :)

Labor Day weekend fun!

We had such a wonderful time this Labor Day. Camping is always so much better when you have warm weather! Last year we weren't as lucky. Everyone arrived safe and began to relax right away.

Here is a picture of everyone enjoying the water. The kids wanted to start swimming as early as 10AM!

Our island was even uncovered enough that we could all sit out and soak up the sun :) Even Aayla and Shadow gave in and relaxed. I love how Aayla fell asleep on his back.

For the past few years we have brought a few dozen ears of corn for everyone to eat. This year Pete decided he was going to deep fry some. I wasn't quite sure how that would turn out but the people who tried it said it wasn't that bad.

Here is the finished deep fried corn...If it was completely covered it would look like a large corn dog!

While we were setting up I saw one of these little snappers crawling around. Apparently when Mike dug out the fire pit he must of disturbed the nest. We found 11 total I believe and they were all released down by the water. I just hope we don't ever see them again!

One of the nights we had a pretty sunset :)

And then the next morning I was up early enough to see the steam on the water. I know...I WAS UP EARLY! Those of you who  know me know that when I'm camping I sleep in :)

This year was so wonderful and we can't wait until next year already!!!! Here is a picture of the whole Labor Day crew :)

After we watched everyone leave and got Pete's truck running again...we headed to grandma's house. I took this picture of Miss Aayla in the truck. I think the leaf looks like a heart :)

Here is a picture of the hammock that my cousins and I played in when we were young. Many happy and funny memories were made in that hammock. I can still picture my cousin Katie and I wrapping up her sister Gretchen and spinning her around!

And finally here is a picture of the sunset we saw on our way home. It was so beautiful.

Hope everyone had a great day today and I hope you all have a great weekend :)

YUM!

So last night I was craving cookies. I have been a fan of Pinterest for a long time and have found some recipes that are good while others are not.

I have to say I found one that fits in to the LOVE category :)

Butterfinger Cookies
These cookies were so easy to make and turned out great. I have attached the recipe below and the link where I found it. http://www.recipegirl.com/2008/07/31/butterfinger-chunk-cookies/

Butterfinger Chunk Cookies

Yield: 24 cookies
Prep Time: 20 min + chill time
Cook Time: 12 min
Both the buttery and chocolate parts of the candy bar melt into these cookies...

Ingredients:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups, plus 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups crushed Butterfingers (about 3 regular-sized bars)

Directions:

1. Using electric mixer, beat butter and both sugars in large bowl until well-blended. Add egg and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Beat in flour, salt and baking soda. Stir in butterfingers (dough will be moist). Chill cookie dough at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour.

2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Using 1 rounded Tablespoon of dough for each cookie (I use a small cookie scooper), drop cookie dough in mounds onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 3 inches apart (about 8 cookies per sheet; cookies will spread). Bake cookies until golden brown, about 12 minutes. Transfer parchment with cookies to rack and cool completely. (Can be prepared 4 days ahead. Store in airtight container.)

I hope everyone had a great day and tonight I think I'm going to be making Peanut Butter Cornflake Balls. I'll make sure to take pictures and let you know how they turned out :)

Celebrating Grandma's 88th Birthday

This past weekend we went to my dad's after packing up from the river. It was my grandma's 88th birthday on Sunday so Monday we all got together to celebrate.

I also took this time to do some pictures of my brother and his girlfriend. I love working with them :)

Here are some of my favorites from our mini session :)

And this is their new kitten Bruce Wayne...yes....after Batman. He purrs like crazy and is just a doll.

Hope everyone had a great day!!!
